M42/43 - The Orion Nebula, de Mairan's Nebula & NGC1977
5th February 2007
This is an exposure of 54 mins and shows a lot more detail.

Seems like i has been ages since i last images The Orion Nebula.
For this image i only managed 7 x 3min as the heavens opened and soaked me, my scope and laptop. All working fine after a wipe down.
I'm really happy with this shot considering the conditions.
I also tried to expose the core better and i think i have managed quite well, using mask in photoshop resulted in a better image.
Also note, that the Running Man nebula is very clear.
This is a much better image that my previous attempts.
Here are a few interesting items within this amazing area of sky:

| The image above is a cropped section of the main image showing M43 another Messier object. It can sometimes be overlooked as the Orion Nebula is so bright. | Within the heart of The Orion Nebula is the Trapezium , a close grouping of four stars. The brightest star lights up 99% of the nebula and is a great sight in a telescope. | Further North of The Orion Nebula is NGC1977 also known as "The Running Man". This bluish, green nebula looks great in photos of long exposure. |
In this image the top bluish nebula is NGC1977 also known as "The Running Man" |

Wow what a difference a new camera makes. This image was taken on 19th November 2005 when it was very clear and -7 degrees !!!!!! |
It was very cold and the moon was almost full. |
